Ayushmann Khurrana and Ananya Panday starrer Dream Girl 2 minted Rs 10.69 crore on its opening day. Directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa, who also helmed the 2019 prequel Dream Girl, the film also features Paresh Rawal, Annu Kapoor, Rajpal Yadav, Vijay Raaz, Abhishek Banerjee, Manjot Singh, Seema Pahwa and Manoj Joshi.
As per industry tracker Sacnilk, the film had a 29.51 per cent Hindi occupancy on Friday. As per Bollywood Hungama, Dream Girl also had a similar opening and had minted Rs 10.50 crores on its first day, but emerged as the biggest hit of Ayushmann’s career, with Rs 142 crore. The film’s first-day collection is similar to the recent releases OMG 2 (Rs 10.26 crore), Satyaprem Ki Katha (Rs 9.25 crore), and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (Rs 11 crore).
Ayushmann’s previous releases An Action Hero, Doctor G and Chandigrah Kare Aashiqui didn’t make much of an impact on the box office.
Our review of the film read, “After his recent experiments resulted in commercial duds (An Action Hero, Doctor G Anek, Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui), with Dream Girl 2 Ayushmann Khurrana seems desperate to replay the small-budget-yet-massy feat Vicky Donor and Bareilly Ki Barfi had pulled off. He emotes Pooja with ease and tries almost all gags in his repository (there is also the famous Ayushmann Khurrana monologue.)”
