The trailer of Sushmita Sen starrer series Taali was released today. In the show, Sushmita plays the role of transgender activist Shreegauri Sawant.

The series is directed by National award-winning filmmaker Ravi Jadhav, who made the highly acclaimed Natarang (2010) and Nude (2018).

The trailer chronicles the life of Shreegauri from childhood to adulthood. In school, kids laugh at Shreegauri when they express their desire of becoming a mother. Sushmita’s Shreegauri then grows up and undergoes a sex change only to realise there is no census in India for transgenders. “It is appalling that in this country even dogs get a census but not the third gender,” they say. The trailer then shows how Shreegauri runs from pillar to post to bring a change in the country’s legal system.

The series is written by Kshitij Patwardhan, and created by Arjun Singgh Baran and Kartk D Nishandar, who are also backing Taali alongside Afeefa Nadiadwala. The series also stars Ankur Bhatia, Krutika Deo, Suvrat Joshi, Vikram Bham, Hemangii Kavi, Vijay Vikram, and Aishwarya Narkar.

Taali will premiere on JioCinema on August 15.
