Karishma Kohli on creating mystery in The Fame Game

CE Features

Karishma Kohli has co-directed Netflix's showbiz series The Fame Game. Created by Sri Rao, the 8-episode series stars Madhuri Dixit as a Bollywood star who goes mysteriously missing. Karishma has assisted on films like Ek Tha Tiger and Bajrangi Bhaijaan, and directed the 2020 short The Woman Under The Tree.

In a conversation, the director shared her thoughts behind the element of surprise in The Fame Game. Talking about creating the right mood for the show, Karishma said, “Creating a suspenseful aura is a challenge in itself. There are certain things that you have to reveal and some things you have to conceal. So figuring that balance was tricky. Also with the characters, we had to establish them in a way that keeps the mystery alive. Especially with Madhuri ma'am 's character, we had to be extra careful because the question in the series quickly shifts from where is Anamika to who is Anamika? And we had to do justice to that!”
