Aamir Khan-starrer Laal Singh Chaddha faced protests in Punjab’s Jalandhar on Thursday, during its screening at a PVR Cineplex.

As per reports, a group led by Shiv Sena, gathered outside the cinema hall and asked to stop the screening as Aamir’s previous film PK had “insulted Hindu deities.”Police later reached the spot and after talking with the multiplex’s management, the screening was stopped.

On getting to know about this, Sikh organisations also reached the movie hall and raised slogans in favour of the film. They said that the movie is based on the character of a Sikh man and Hindu organisations have no right to stop its screening.

Other reports are also coming in of protests against the film. As per an IANS report, Members of the 'Sanatan Rakshak Sena' in Varanasi staged a protest against the release of Laal Singh Chaddha. The protesters demanded a boycott of the movie and said that Aamir and his wife do not feel safe in the country, so his movie should be released outside India. They were referring to the comments made by the actor in 2015.

Meanwhile, calls to boycott the film have been gaining traction on Twitter. Resultantly, Laal Singh Chaddha has a dismal IMDB rating of 4.2. As per reports it had a bleak opening of over Rs 10 crore, lowest for an Aamir Khan film in 13 years, and one-fifth of the opening of Thugs of Hindustan, which was ultimately a critical and commercial dud.
