Ajay Devgn's Sooryavanshi cameo lays out Singham 3

CE Features

The most exciting stretch in Sooryavanshi is the climax, where the three supercops of director Rohit Shetty's franchise convene. The sequence, which combines humour and thrills, is a cohesive slice of masala film fan-servicing. And it's also significant: it confirms, rather comprehensively, what the next stop in the road will be.

Rohit's Cop Universe started with the Singham movies, released between 2011 and 2014. The second film in the line — Singham Returns — showed Bajirao Singham (Ajay Devgn) transferred from Goa to Mumbai. It's where we meet him in Sooryavanshi, arriving on an armoured Mahindra Marksman to rescue his pals. Later, a terrorist hands him a phone with his boss on the line. This boss, Omar Hafeez (Jackie Shroff), will be the likely villain in Singham 3. What's more, the film will be set in Pakistan, as Bajirao crosses enemy lines to catch terrorists (and likely boost up the Pakistan SUV industry).

This isn't entirely a surprise. Ajay's last release, Bhuj, was set in India, but with Pakistan as the enemy. And the one before that — Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior — played on Indo-Pak sentiments, using the phrase 'surgical strike' in its promos. Combine it all, and it makes sense for Singham 3 to be set in Pakistan, even if Bajirao is still a DCP in Mumbai.

According to a report in Pinkvilla, Singham 3 will take off from the end of Sooryavanshi. It will have Bajirao entering POK to track down Omar. The other cops, Simmba and Sooryavanshi, will join him, wreaking possibly even more mayhem than they do in today's release. Basically, it's game-on for Singham. Should be a roaring success.
