Actor Jessica Chastain is all set to make her return to the horror genre after It Chapter Two (2019), with Other Mommy. But unlike the 2019 film, the actor will take on the role of the titular supernatural entity, that haunts a family. In Other Mommy, a young girl Bela (Arabella Olivia Clark), builds a relationship with the entity, which looks like her mother.

Speaking about becoming that entity, Chastain said, "In prep, I started thinking about the reality of Other Mommy. It is trying to appear warm and gentle to Bela, but I imagined it might be painful for this entity to hold the shape of something it is not. I found this unblinking smile in the mirror, and then the tears started coming, which created this strange contrast between what Other Mommy is presenting and what is underneath."

Chastain also refers to a single moment, when the look for the character clicked. "At one point, a child came into the trailer. I made the face and he immediately screamed. Director Rob Savage said, ‘That is Other Mommy.’ From there, every physical choice came from what it might feel like for this entity to present itself as everything Bela wishes her mother could be."

She added, "What makes Other Mommy so terrifying is the idea of a parent being replaced by something sinister. There is also this question of whether Bela is seeing Other Mommy or a darker side of Mommy, and the fact that she cannot always tell is unsettling.”

Other Mommy is directed by Rob Savage, who has directed films like Host and The Boogeyman. The cast of Other Mommy includes Arabella Olivia Clark, Jay Duplass, Dichen Lachman, Karen Allen, Arian Moayed, Sean Kaufman, Adam Silver and Alec Secareanu. It is an adaptation of Josh Malerman's novel of the same name. Other Mommy is set to open in theatres on October 9.
