Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey is returning to theatres, for an exclusive IMAX re-release of the film, today. The film has become the highest grossing IMAX release in India.
Denzil Dias of Universal Pictures, speaking about the film through a press statement, said, “A result like this is not about one week or one number, it is a film finding its audience in the format it was built for, again and again, over ten weeks. To see IMAX alone cross Rs 100 Crore, a number we normally talk about for an entire film's run, tells you how India watched The Odyssey. We are proud to have brought that audience to the format, and glad to be bringing the film back for them to do it again.”
Meanwhile, Giovanni Dolci, Chief Commercial Officer, IMAX, said, “Christopher Nolan shot The Odyssey entirely with IMAX Film Cameras, and audiences across India have made it a phenomenon." Dolci also mentioned the importance that Nolan's vision and the Indian movie goers' passion had on the film's performance.
The Odyssey is an adaptation of Homer's poem of the same name. Matt Damon leads the cast of the film as King Odysseus of Ithaca, whose journey home after the Trojan War, is filled with mystical adventures and hurdles from the Greek Gods. The cast of the film includes Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, and Charlize Theron.
CE's review of the film reads, "The Odyssey has every theme that has become synonymous with Nolan. There’s the concept of time, the promise of a father, the wait of a child, the fate of a wife, the betrayal of your faith, society’s descent into madness, sacrifice for the greater good, questioning the status quo, the idea of home, and flawed humans who don’t know what to do with the consequences of their ‘heroic’ actions."
