Director Destin Daniel Cretton's Spider-Man: Brand New Day, starring Tom Holland in the titular role, has been having a remarkable run at the box office. Still running in some international theatres, it has become the third highest-grossing film of all time at the global box office and the highest-grossing film at the North American market. The remarkable success of the film, which has reportedly grossed around $2.5 billion at the worldwide box office, has made Tom Holland the lead actor with the highest box office collection of all time.
Even as the film continues to topple records, one by one, Prime Video announced on Friday that the film is set to drop on the streaming platform in India on a rental basis on October 06, Tuesday. A wider digital release is expected to happen with JioHostar at a later date.
In the recent past, Prime Video has been making big-ticket Hollywood films available on the streaming platform for rent before JioHostar releases the same films for its subscribers.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day follows the Tom Holland character's fight with a new enemy to save the world even as he wrestles with his dual identities as the titular superhero and an ordinary man named Peter Parker. At the same time, Peter Parker/Spider-Man crosses paths with MJ (Zendaya) and his friend Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon), who is now a Spidey tracker. With MJ and Ned Leeds having little to no memory of Spider-Man from another dimension, Peter Parker has an internal battle with his mind, contributing to outside threats he does not expect at the onset.
In our review for the film, Prashanth Vallavan wrote, "Brand New Day understands the first thing that made us fall in love with Spider-Man" and called it "the most visually stunning film in Tom Holland’s MCU run."
