Withstanding the juggernaut of Michael and Devil Wears Prada 2, filmmaker Curry Barker's supernatural horror film Obsession has been winning accolades both from critics and at the box office. The leads of the film, played by Michael Johnston and Inde Navarrette, have praised their director for being energetic and collaborative.

Navarrette hailed Barker as being "incredibly collaborative". She went on to say that Barker was the first director to let him be "free with choices". Taking from her co-star, Johnston spoke highly of the on-set environment Barker created. "There's a fresh, infectious energy Curry (Barker) brings to the set that feels like making a movie in the backyard with your friends but with total clarity of vision."

Johnston seconded Navarrette's praise of Barker, celebrating creative freedom in Obsession. “He’s very hands-on because of his background, showing up with detailed images for every shot, yet he still invites us to play and discover the scene together.”

The film follows Baron "Bear" Bailey (Michael Johnston), a hopeless romantic working at a music store, who uses the enigmatic One Wish Willow for his romantic pursuit of Nikki Freeman (Inde Navarrette). An overjoyed Bear gets his wishes, unaware that some desires come with a sinister price.

Also starring Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless, and Andy Richter, among others, Obsession marks Barker's second directorial venture after his 2024 debut, Milk and Serial. Following its success in the US, the film is set to hit theatres in India on May 29.
