Oscar-winning actors Renee Zellweger and Sissy Spacek, along with the emerging talent Mia Threapleton, are set to star in the upcoming film A Woman in the Sun, helmed by Julia Cox. The film marks the debut of Cox, who has earlier penned Nyad. The project announcement was made at Cannes, where the producers Black Bear Pictures, Artist Equity, and Zellweger's Big Picture Co are introducing the film to international buyers.

A Woman in the Sun revolves around one month in the life of a bartender in Nantucket, Claire Keating, and the island's declining middle class. Claire's world cracks open after her mother gets sick and her daughter decides to leave home. The multi-generational story explores "beauty, agony, and hilarity of loving other people deeply."

Describing the script as a "storytelling treasure," Zellweger said that her Big Picture Co's mission is to champion promising filmmakers like Julia. She added, "We're thrilled to be part of this very special project and the team that will help realise Julia's vision. Julia's instincts set her apart as an emerging filmmaker."

The film's production is set to commence in September 2026.
