The Devil Wears Prada season is almost here with the sequel set for release in a month, but the hype has multiplied manifold following Anna Wintour's cameo appearance on the Oscars 2026 stage along with Anne Hathaway.

The original The Devil Wears Prada (2006) was based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 eponymous novel. It is considered a cult classic among fans and a mirror to the cutthroat fashion world. The film saw aspiring journalist Andrea Sachs (Hathaway) rediscovering herself after building herself a notable name at Runway magazine headed by the fiercely sharp-tongued Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) whose character is widely believed to be based on the noted fashion personality and former editor-in-chief of Vogue.

The duo joined hands to present the award for Best Costume Design and Best Makeup and Hairstyling when Wintour jokingly called Anne Hathaway 'Emily', the name of Emily Blunt's character from the film. For the unversed, Priestly calls Sachs' character Emily many times despite her correcting the editor that her name is Andy.

Before announcing the winner for Best Costume Design, she turned to Wintour and asked, "Anna, just curious, what do you think of my dress tonight?"

Wintour, known for her signature composure and trademark sunglasses, responded with a dry punchline: "And the nominees are...," prompting laughter from the audience.

Later, while introducing the Best Makeup and Hairstyling nominees, Hathaway, asked, "Anna, would you like to read the nominees?" to which Wintour replied, "Thank you, Emily."

The light-hearted moment became a memorable part of the awards night, especially since The Devil Wears Prada continues remains a fan favourite even after two decades of its release. With the woman who started it all being present to witness and be part of pop-culture, excited fans and audiences. Wintour currently serves as the chief content officer for Condé Nast and global editorial director of Vogue.

Set to hit theatres on May 1, the sequel is directed by David Frankel and Aline Brosh McKenna after working together on the original. Emily Blunt returns to play Emily Charlton while the newcomers for the sequel include Kenneth Branagh, set to play Miranda’s husband, as well as Lucy Liu, Simone Ashley, Justin Theroux, BJ Novak, Pauline Chalamet, Rachel Bloom and Patrick Brammal in undisclosed roles. Broadway talents Helen J Shen and Conrad Ricamora, along with comedian Caleb Hearon, will also feature in the sequel. Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman reprise their roles as Lily, Andy’s best friend, and the chairman of Runway’s parent company, respectively. Singer-songwriter Lady Gaga is also set to make a key appearance in the film although details of her role remains unknown.
