Actor-filmmaker Sean Penn, who recently won his third Oscar for One Battle After Another, is set to direct what is called his 'passion project'. He will reunite with Warner Bros, after One Battle After Another, for this new film he writes and directs based on the January 6 Capitol riots.

Bradley Cooper is being circled to star in the film about the early life of a cop who gets deputised in the riots. However, there is no confirmation about Cooper's onboarding yet.

Penn will also produce the film with John Ira Palmer and John Wildermuth under their Projected Picture Works banner. The film, according to reports, is set to operate on multiple levels with a story about friendship intertwined with cops caught in the Capitol siege.

The new film marks Penn's return to directing a feature after 2021's Flag Day. His directing credits include The Indian Runner (1991), The Pledge (2001) and Into the Wild (2007).
