Elisabeth Moss was last seen in the 2024 film Shell

Author Emma Straub's novel 'American Fantasy' is getting a feature adaptation with actor Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid's Tale).

Published by Penguin Random House in April 2026, 'American Fantasy' follows Annie, a recently divorced woman who boards a nostalgia cruise headlined by a 90s boy band that was her favourite during her adolescence. The journey makes her reckon with who she was and who she still wants to be.

In a joint statement Moss and McManus said Emma's humorous portrayal of being a fan is "so rare and genuinely fun to read that we knew we had to find s way to bring it to screen".

Moss, Elisabeth McManus will produce the film with author Straub serving as an executive producer. Straub has also authored 'This Time Tomorrow,' 'All Adults Here,' 'Vacationers,' and 'Modern Lovers'.

Moss, last seen in the series Imperfect Women and The Testaments, also has to her credits Law & Order: Trial by Jury, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Saturday Night Live, The French Dispatch, and Shirley. Her last feature was Shell (2024).
