On Wednesday, Prime Video revealed that actors Olivia Williams, Indira Varma, Sophie Skelton, and Aidan Gillen have joined Young Sherlock season 2 in series regular roles, and that production on it is underway. They join existing cast members, including lead actors Hero Fiennes Tiffin (Sherlock Holmes) and Donal Finn (James Moriarty).
The series is created by Matthew Parkhill, who also serves as its showrunner and executive producer, and it has acclaimed filmmaker Guy Ritchie as one of its executive producers and directors. Billed as "an irreverent, action-packed mystery," it chronicles the early days of Sherlock Holmes before he would go on to be a world-renowned detective.

Indira Varma's acting credits include The Other Bennet Sister, The Capture, The Night Manager season 2, Cold Walter, Obsession, Doctor Who, Extrapolations, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 1, and The Capture.
On the other hand, Sophie Skelton is most popular for playing Brianna Randall Fraser in Outlander. Skelton's credits also include I Can Only Imagine 2, and Row. Meanwhile, Aidan Gillen has won multiple accolades from Irish Film and Television Awards, as well as having British Independent Film Award, British Academy Television Award, and Tony Award nominations. Gillen's notable credits include his roles as Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish in Game of Thrones, Tommy Carcetti in The Wire, and Stuart Alan Jones in Queer as Folk.
The second season also stars Natascha McElhone as Sherlock's mother Cordelia Holmes, Max Irons as the titular detective's brother Mycroft Holmes, and Holly Cattle as his sister Beatrice Holmes.
Guy Ritchie comes back to direct Young Sherlock season 2's first episode and as its executive producer.
