On Thursday, Prime Video announced that Matthew Needham has been cast in the animated series Batman: Caped Crusader season 2 as the voice of the Joker. The announcement came at a panel for the series at San Diego Comic-Con, which also held the word premiere of its first episode. Needham is best known for playing Larys Strong in HBO's House of the Dragon.
The series stars Hamish Linklater as Batman, Jason Watkins as Pennyworth, Jamie Chung as Harley Quinn, Eric Morgan Stuart as Commissioner Jim Gordon, Krystal Joy Brown as Gordon's daughter Barbara, and Cedric Yarbrough as crime boss Rupert Thorne, among others. The cast includes Michelle C Bonilla, Gary Anthony Williams, Ronan Raftery, Wunmi Mosaku, Laraine Newman, Grey DeLisle, John DiMaggio, Zach Hoffman, William Salyers, Josh Brener, Bumper Robinson, Tom Kenny, Roger Craig Smith, Blythe Melin, Fryda Wolff, Kevin Michael Richardson, Robin Atkin Downes, and Juliet Donenfeld.
Designed as a piece of hard-boiled noir, Batman: Caped Crusader season 1 follows the early days of the titular vigilante in Gotham City. Every night, Wayne/Batman wages a relentless battle against Gotham's criminals against all odds.
JJ Abrams, Bruce Timm, and Matt Reeves serve as executive producers on the reimagining of DC Comics' Batman mythology. It hails from DC Studios, Warner Bros Animation, 6th and Idaho of Reeves, and Bad Robot Productions of Abrams. Executive producers also include Geoffrey Thorne, James Tucker, Rachel Rusch Rich, Sam Register, and Sarah Geismer.
The announcement regarding Batman: Caped Crusader season 1 casting coincided with the trailer release of Amazon Luna's upcoming game Batman: Caped Crusader - Chronicles, which is set for a July 31 launch. Meanwhile, Batman: Caped Crusader season 2 is scheduled to release on Prime on July 31, Friday.
