After a successful collaboration in 2016 with the college basketball film, Everybody Wants Some!, Richard Linklater and Glen Powell are joining forces again for an untitled film. This time, it is a baseball film on the baseball player Lou Gehrig. The Universal film has Linklater directing from a script by Simon Rich.

Lorne Michaels, an ardent New York Yankees fan, is producing the film with Erin David under the Broadway Video banner. While Powell will also produce the film, Linklater is in talks to produce through Detour Filmproduction.

Hailed as one of the greatest baseball players of all time, Gehrig's 17-year career had him win six World Series titles and the Triple Crown in 1934. He died in 1941 due to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig's disease. Powell had two releases in 2026: How to Make a Killing and a voice role in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. He has up next The Comeback King, directed by Judd Apatow, and The Great Beyond, directed by JJ Abrams.
