Filmmaker Christopher Nolan's epic adaptation of Homer's poem, Odyssey, has opened to positive reviews from critics and film fraternity members. Actor Tom Cruise, too, shared his appreciation of The Odyssey, starring Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, and Zendaya, among others. Cruise shared a photograph of himself standing in front of an Odyssey poster and wrote, "Wow! To Chris, Emma, and ALL of your brilliant cast and crew. Thank you for an amazing night in a movie theater. I can’t wait to see it again!"
Tom Cruise has long been an admirer of Christopher Nolan's work. When the world was operating under social distancing protocols during the COVID period, for example, Cruise watched Nolan's Tenet and expressed his admiration for the film.
"Big Movie. Big Screen. Loved it," the superstar said about Tenet at the time. He also showed his support for Nolan's Oppenheimer, when it hit theatres alongside Greta Gerwig's Barbie.
Coming back to The Odyssey, the film follows King of Ithaca Odysseus' (Matt Damon) dangerous journey back home following the Trojan War. The premise of the film sparked multiple memes about how Hollywood is spending millions of money just to get Matt Damon home. For the unversed, Damon starrers such as Saving Private Ryan and The Martian also have storylines about the actor's character getting back home from a mission. The same goes for Damon's arc in Nolan Interstellar, where multiple crew members on a space mission find him stranded on an icy planet.
The first major studio production to be shot entirely with IMAX cameras, The Odyssey also stars Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Elliot Page, Jon Bernthal, and Samantha Morton, among others.
Audiences and critics have already started to hail it as one of the best films in Christopher Nolan's career.
