Moving the release date by a month, The Nightingale makers have announced that the film, starring Elle Fanning and Dakota Fanning, will release on March 19, 2027. The film, directed by Michael Morris, was originally planned for release on February 12, 2027. The film is set to clash with Sonic the Hedgehog 4.

Written by Dana Stevens, the film is an adaptation of Kristin Hannah's bestselling novel of the same name. Along with the Fanning sisters, the film also stars Douglas Hodge, Shira Haas, Mark Rylance, Vinette Robinson, Gwilym Lee, Alrecht Schuch, and Edmund Donovan.

In real life, siblings play siblings in the film, which is set against World War 2. According to the makers, the film follows two sisters who embark on separate and dangerous paths in the fight for survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France.

Elizabeth Cantillon, Reese Witherspoon, Dakota Fanning, Elle Fanning, Brittany Kahane Ward, and Lauren Neustader are producing the film.
