Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey is special for Anne Hathaway in many ways. She portrays Odysseus' (Matt Damon) wife as Queen Penelope, a steadfast and brave woman standing guard until her husband comes home from a long battle along with her son Telemachus (Tom Holland). Off screen, she brings the same mother energy as she is expecting her third child with Adam Shulman. Talking about her character and being a mom in real life, Hathaway called Tom Holland the "dream son" and hoped that all her children grow up to be "as wonderful as Tom Holland".
In a recent interview, she said, "As a mom in real life, I very much hope that all my children grow up to be as wonderful as my on screen child. Tom Holland is like the dream son. Honestly, that is the key to it. We have this amazing script and brilliant actors, but I love Tom, Matt and Chris."
Sharing her take on The Odyssey, she said, "Even though this was a big epic movie, it is grounded in intimate appreciation and respect for each other. I don't think any of us wanted to let Chris down so we harnessed our highest strength and passion. We tried to be actors who are worthy of being in a Nolan movie."
The film is based on Greek king Odysseus' (Matt Damon) long and ardous 10-year-long journey after the Trojan war to reunite with his wife Penelope (Anne Hathaway) and son Telemachus (Tom Holland).
The Odyssey has set massive expectations as it is the first feature film to be entirely shot with IMAX cameras with Nolan admitting that he shot over 2 million feet of film in 91 days.
The star-studded cast also features The film also stars Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, Elliot Page, Himesh Patel, Bill Irwin, Samantha Morton, Jesse Garcia, Will Yun Lee, Rafi Gavron, Shiloh Fernandez, Mia Goth, among others. Nolan and his wife Emma Thomas are producing the film through their production company, Syncopy.
The Odyssey is slated for release in theatres on July 17.
