BookMyShow's Red Lorry Film Festival is set to screen some critically acclaimed documentaries as part of its section Reality Bytes. Part of its documentary slate are director Klára Tasovská's I’m Not Everything I Want to Be, which is Czech Republic's official Oscar submission, and the Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti-backed Turtle Walker. Tasovská's documentary takes an intimate look at renowned photographer Libuše Jarcovjáková's life through her diary and candid pictures. The critically appreciated film looks at a life influenced by artistic freedom, resistance, rebellion and desire.
About the festival's section, its director Ashish Saksena stated, "Reality Bytes is about documentaries that engage honestly with the world around us. These films use deeply personal narratives to explore larger questions of identity, resilience and the choices people make."
Also part of the slate is Jessica Earnshaw's true-crime documentary Baby Doe, which explores an old case related to the death of a child through contemporary DNA evidence and testimonies.
Director Mari Bakke Riise and Sunniva Sundby's Norwegian documentary Fighter is also part of the festival slate. The documentary follows MMA fighter Geir Kåre Nyland who became paralyzed following an accident. It deals with masculinity, trauma, and what strength looks like after a major injury.
A different documentary that is part of the slate is Anna Koch and Julia Lemke's Circusboy. It tells the coming-of-age tale of a teenager who grows up at a touring circus with his great-grandfather.
Director Taira Malaney's Turtle Walker is the most recent addition to the festival lineup. It follows Satish Bhaskar, a sea turtle conservationist who spent almost two decades searching for turtle nesting areas along India’s coastline. Blending interviews and archival material with dramatised scenes, Turtle Walker explores Satish's work in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as well as Lakshadweep. Zoya and Reema produced it through the Tiger Baby Films banner, and it has My Octopus Teacher co-director James Reed as an executive producer.
The Red Lorry Film Festival is set to take place from March 13 to 15 this year.
