Director Alejandro González Iñárritu's The Revenant is hitting IMAX screens again in select international locations to mark the film's 10-year-anniversary. The film earned multiple Oscar nominations in 2016, resulting in wins for its star Leonardo DiCaprio for Best Actor, Iñárritu for Best Director, and Emmanuel Lubezki for Best Cinematographer. With the film set to release again in theatres and run from February 26 to March 01, exclusively on IMAX, many audiences around the world are excited about watching the survival drama on the big screen again. While there is still no confirmation about its India rerelease, fans await it with hope because DiCaprio is immensely popular in the country.
Meanwhile, the other day, Tom Cruise shared his excitement for The Revenant rerelease. Taking to his Instagram Stories, Cruise wrote that he would 'definitely' attend the screening of the film and that he cannot wait for it. Cruise has always been a strong advocate of the big-screen cinematic experience. He famously praised Christopher Nolan's Tenet after its release during the COVID period.
The film tells the story of a frontiersman's (DiCaprio) fight to stay alive after a hunter (Tom Hardy) kills his offspring (Forrest Goodluck) while leaving him to die gradually. Grieving his son's death and fresh off a grizzly bear attack, the man must struggle to return to civilisation.
DiCaprio won his first Oscar award for his performance in the film, whereas Hardy earned a nomination in the Best Supporting Actor category. While Hardy lost the award to Bridge of Spies star Mark Rylance, DiCaprio praised Revenant his co-star in his Best Actor Oscar acceptance speech. The speech went viral worldwide thanks to DiCaprio speaking about the impacts of climate change in it.
Coming back to Tom Cruise, the actor does not have any role in the 2015 film. However, he is collaborating for the first time with Iñárritu for his upcoming film, which has been titled Digger. The movie, which marks Iñárritu's comeback to English films after The Revenant, is slated for an October release in theatres.
