An AI-generated video of Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt fighting on a rooftop, created by an Irish film and commercial maker, Ruairi Robinson, has been trending on social networking platforms over the last few days. The sound and physicality do not match Cruise or Pitt's, and the video seems too good to be true. As with anything related to AI on the internet, it is misleading, but its veracity is not all that easy to confirm at an instance. On Thursday, the Motion Picture Association criticised the recent AI video generator, Seedance 2.0, saying that the clip amounts to a case of copyright infringement.

In the video, one character, disguised as Pitt, can be seen accusing the other, portrayed as Cruise, of killing Jeffrey Epstein. "You killed Jeffrey Epstein, you animal. He was a good man," Pitt says as he lands a blow on Cruise's body. In response, Cruise says, "He knew too much about our rush operations. He had to die, and now you die too," as he drags Pitt on to the ground.

An official representative of MPA stated, “In a single day, the Chinese AI service Seedance 2.0 has engaged in unauthorised use of US copyrighted works on a massive scale. By launching a service that operates without meaningful safeguards against infringement, ByteDance is disregarding well-established copyright law that protects the rights of creators and underpins millions of American jobs. ByteDance should immediately cease its infringing activity,”

The owner of TikTok, ByteDance said that the model represents a “substantial leap in generation quality” from the last version.

The video has drawn criticism from elsewhere as well. For example, the writer of the Deadpool films, Rhett Reese wrote on Cruise-Pitt AI video comment section, “I hate to say it. It’s likely over for us.” Reese also added, “In next to no time, one person is going to be able to sit at a computer and create a movie indistinguishable from what Hollywood now releases.”
