Teyana Taylor, who recently appeared in a breakthrough role as Perfidia Beverly Hills in director Paul Thomas Anderson's Best Picture Oscar-nominated film One Battle After Another, is set to make her directorial debut with Get Lite. The other day, the distributor of the film, Paramount Pictures, announced that it would hit theatres on April 09 next year. Taylor is also attached to serve as an executive producer on the film, starring Storm Reid, Kenya Barris, Anni Weisband, Robyn Simpson, and Bill Karesh.
The plot follows a skilled, yet sheltered, dance student gaining inspiration in the place he least expected to find it: the New York City (NYC) subways. Besides starring in it, Reid is also attached to produce the film.
The announcement about Get Lite comes amid Teyana Taylor's successful run as an actor and as a musician in the recent past. Her performance as a revolutionary in the Paul Thomas Anderson directorial, co-starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Chase Infiniti, and Benicio del Toro, has earned Taylor a best supporting actress award at the Golden Globes recently. It also garnered her critical appreciation from around the world and nominations at the BAFTA Film Awards, the Academy Awards, and SAG-AFTRA’s Actor Awards. The winners of the BAFTA, Oscars, and SAG-AFTRA’s Actor Awards would be announced later this year.
In the music segment, meanwhile, Taylor earned a Grammy nomination for her most recent record, titled Escape Room.
