Last night, HBO dropped a trailer and announced the release date of its upcoming comedy series Rooster, starring Steve Carell. Hailing from creators cum showrunners Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses, the series is set to start streaming on HBO Max from March 08 on a sequential basis. It consists of 10 episodes, which are set to become available on the streamer once every Sunday through May 10. The series is expected to become available on JioHotstar; however, the makers are yet to confirm the same. Reportedly, the deal between Reliance Industries Ltd's Viacom18 and Warner Bros Discovery is valid only up to April 2026. With the Rooster finale slated for a May 10 release, it remains to be seen where the series will stream in India.

Set on a college campus, the series explores the complicated relationship between an author, played by Carell, and his daughter, portrayed by Charly Clive. The author visits his daughter at the college as she deals with a major personal life situation after her spouse leaves her for a graduate student, played by Phil Dunster of Ted Lasso fame. The college head, played by John C McGinley, convinces the author to remain at the institution in any capacity, as he begins bonding with certain students.

The title Rooster refers to the lead role in his literary works, making students on campus call him the same. Lauren Tsai and Danielle Deadwyler also star in the series. Connie Britton, Annie Mumolo, Rory Scovel, Robby Hoffman, and Alan Ruck round out the cast.

The series brings Steve Carell back together with HBO after his role in the straight-to-OTT film Mountainhead, directed by Jesse Armstrong. It also continues his work in the web series space after The Four Seasons, which has been streaming on Netflix for about a year now.

Tarses and Lawrence serve as executive producers on the series, alongside Liza Katzer and Jeff Ingold of Lawrence's banner Doozer Productions, Carell, David Hyman, David Stassen, Annie Mebane, Anthony King, Jonathan Krisel, and Barbie Adler.
