Marvel Studios has finally offered a glimpse of Paul Bettany’s next chapter as Vision, with the first trailer for VisionQuest arriving alongside its October premiere date.
The upcoming Disney+ series, which is positioned as the concluding instalment in the story that began with WandaVision, will premiere on October 14. The trailer was unveiled during Marvel Studios’ presentation, with Bettany appearing alongside James Spader, who reprises his role as the villainous Ultron from Avengers: Age of Ultron.
The first trailer for Marvel’s VisionQuest takes Paul Bettany’s White Vision on a surreal journey through his own fractured consciousness, with the footage introducing a strange world populated by different artificial intelligences. The trailer sees Vision grappling with questions about his identity and whether he can truly claim the memories and legacy of the original Vision. The footage also brings back James Spader’s Ultron, this time appearing in human form and seemingly attempting to gain control of Vision’s mind. Among the other familiar AI figures glimpsed in the trailer are J.A.R.V.I.S. and F.R.I.D.A.Y., while Ruaridh Mollica’s Thomas Shepherd also makes an appearance.
Bettany has played Vision in several forms across the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the actor reflected on the character’s unusual journey while introducing the footage. “It’s been an enormous joy playing Vision as he’s evolved through the years,” he said, referring to the character’s battles, deaths and repeated returns before joking that nobody in the MCU is truly gone unless Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige decides otherwise.
The series comes from Terry Matalas, best known for his work as showrunner on Star Trek: Picard. While specific plot details remain under wraps, VisionQuest is expected to build on the events of WandaVision and Agatha All Along, completing what Marvel has described as a trilogy of interconnected stories.
The first series, WandaVision, premiered in 2021 and explored Wanda Maximoff’s grief following Vision’s death in Avengers: Infinity War. The storyline was expanded in 2024 with Agatha All Along, which shifted the focus to Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness, initially introduced as an antagonist in WandaVision.
Bettany’s association with the MCU goes back to its earliest days. He initially voiced Tony Stark’s artificial intelligence assistant JARVIS in 2008’s Iron Man, before making his physical debut as Vision in Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2015. He has since reprised the role across multiple live-action projects and also voiced alternate versions of the character in the animated series What If...?
