Director Gareth Edwards has backed out of the sequel to Jurassic World Rebirth, reportedly citing "creative differences". Distributor Universal Pictures is now looking for a new director, reports say. Reports are yet to clarify what the differences in question are. However, Universal Pictures described their experience collaborating with Gareth for the franchise as being "incredible," as quoted by The Hollywood Reporter.

The Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali starrer Jurassic World Rebirth hit theatres in July last year, and the film reportedly grossed more than $800 million at the global box office. In India, alone, it ran in theatres for over 100 days, with its dubbed versions in regional languages accounting for up to 54 per cent of its overall revenue generated from the domestic box office.

Universal Pictures still has a screenplay for the sequel written by David Koepp, who also worked on the script for Rebirth. Scarlett Johansson is expected to come back for the sequel alongside Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali. However, according to reports, the makers of the film are still figuring out the actors' schedules.

For example, Johansson has multiple projects at various stages of production. The actor has a voice role in director Brad Bird's upcoming animation film, Ray Gunn, which is described a blend of science-fiction and thriller with neo-noir elements. Her upcoming projects also include an Exorcist film with director Mike Flanagan and filmmaker Matt Reeves' The Batman: Part II, featuring Robert Pattinson in the titular role.

The creature franchise has a history of filmmakers exiting the projects. For example, David Leitch exited Rebirth citing creative differences. Frank Marshall and Steven Spielberg, who serve as the franchise's producer and executive producer, respectively, have been the constant presence in it.
