Directors Christopher Miller and Phil Lord's film Project Hail Mary has been having a successful run at the global box office. The film, starring Ryan Gosling, has been widely appreciated by critics and has reportedly minted over 350 million from theatres worldwide.

Recently, actor Sandra Huller, who plays a key supporting role in the film, spoke about why the space odyssey has been having a deep impact on the audience. Speaking to Discussing Film, Huller said, "It’s a beautiful story about all creatures working together in order to save their planets, and to inform each other about what it is to live in this other place. And it is something that we actually need today."

Sandra Huller highlighted the elements of curiosity and empathy in the characters in Project Hail Mary as qualities that are important for humanity today.

For the uninitiated, the film tells the story of a middle-school teacher-turned-astronaut (Ryan Gosling) who is tasked with solving a puzzle associated with the Sun. With certain microorganisms blocking out the Sun, the planet of Earth and its inhabitants face extinction. The future of the planet hings on the findings of the astronaut.

The film is an adaptation of an Andy Weir novel of the same. It has hit theatres at a time when many nations around the world are at loggerheads with each other. The film alludes to this possibility of nations having geopolitical tension in the event of a major crisis.

However, there is more to the film's story than saving the planet. It also tells a moving story of friendship.
