Lucy Liu has signed on to headline and executive produce Superfakes, a new crime drama in development at Peacock.

The series, which was ordered by the streamer in January, comes from creator Alice Ju (Beef), with A24 and Universal Studio Group’s UCP producing. Ju, who previously wrote and produced on Peacock’s Poker Face and collaborated with A24 on Netflix’s Beef, will serve as showrunner.

According to the logline, Liu will portray a “small-time Chinatown luxury counterfeit dealer” who gets pulled into a much larger black market operation while trying to secure a better future for her family.

Behind the camera, Josh and Benny Safdie are on board as executive producers alongside Liu, Ju, Howard Klein and Olivia Gerke of 3 Arts, Ronald Bronstein, and Eli Bush.

Liu, a two-time Emmy nominee, is currently in production on The Devil Wears Prada 2. She also stars in and produced the forthcoming feature Rosemead. Her recent credits include Prime Video’s holiday action-comedy Red One, Netflix’s limited series A Man in Full, and voice work on the streamer’s animated series Jentry Chau vs. the Underworld.
