Emma Watson recently opened up about her struggles as an actor in Hollywood during her stint as Hermione Granger in Harry Potter. Watson, who has been taking a break from acting for a long time, said the other day that she considered it "soul-destroying" to sell a film in the industry. In her latest appearance on On Purpose, a podcast by Jay Shetty, Watson reminisced about her experience forging friendships while working as part of the Harry Potter franchise.
She revealed that she would go to sets expecting some genuine human connection with others, regarding them as part of her broader friend circle and family. However, she said almost everyone in Hollywood only sought opportunities in films, thought about their roles, and had a career-oriented mindset. "I was not of that mindset," she said before breaking down in tears.
Emma Watson also discussed her fued with Harry Potter writer JK Rowling regarding transgender rights. Describing Rowling's perspectives about the matter as "really painful," Watson could not take the approach towards the author that stems from the cancel culture phenomenon. "It’s my deepest wish that I hope people who don’t agree with my opinion will love me, and I hope I can keep loving people who I don’t necessarily share the same opinion with," Watson revealed.
As of now, the actor is pursing doctorate at the University of Oxford.
