On Thursday, A24 confirmed its new project, a comedy titled Jonty to be directed by Lorene Scafaria. The film will star Jesse Plemons and Cole Escola in the lead cast.
While the plot is under wraps, Jonty is co-written by Sam Bain and Succession-fame Jesse Armstrong. The film is being produced by Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen of Square Peg, and Lorne Michaels and Erin David of Broadway Video.
Lorene Scafaria is a two-time Emmy nominee, who has also worked on Succession as a director. Her other credentials include Hustlers, Constance Wu and The Meddler (as a director) and Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist (as a writer). She also directed the pilot for the upcoming HBO series I Love LA, created by Rachel Sennott.
This will be the first time Jesse Plemons and Cole will be seen sharing screen. Plemons is known for his work in films like Zero Day, The Power of The Dog and most recently, Yorgos Lanthimos’ Kinds of Kindness. His upcoming project include Bugonia, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping and Alejandro G Inarritu’s untitled project with Tom Cruise. On the other hand, Escola’s recent Broadway play Oh Mary!, which they also wrote, won several major awards include Two Tonys, a New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award and an Obiee Award.
