Apple TV+ isn’t done with its hit newsroom drama just yet. The streamer has officially greenlit a fifth season of The Morning Show, led by Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, just hours before season four makes its debut on Wednesday.

Matt Cherniss, head of programming at Apple TV+, credited the creative team for the show’s success. “The Morning Show has been a standout from the very start, debuting as one of the flagship series on Apple TV+. It’s been incredibly rewarding to see it not only entertain but also resonate with audiences worldwide,” he said. Praising the efforts of Aniston, Witherspoon, showrunner Charlotte Stoudt, and director Mimi Leder, he added, “The Morning Show continues to deliver addictively entertaining and provocative stories that we’ve all come to love. We’re excited for viewers to experience the next chapter of this Emmy-winning drama.”

Season four brings back familiar faces, including Billy Crudup, Mark Duplass, Nestor Carbonell, Karen Pittman, Greta Lee, Nicole Beharie, and Jon Hamm, while also welcoming Aaron Pierre, William Jackson Harper, Boyd Holbrook, Marion Cotillard, and Jeremy Irons to the ensemble.

At the series’ recent red carpet premiere, Stoudt revealed that while season four is set in early 2024, the political climate won’t dominate the story. “We try to go at it sideways,” she explained. “We don’t really have, directly, an election story, but we do touch on the idea of why two older white men are running for president.” She also noted the narrative unfolds largely before Joe Biden exited the race in July.

Stoudt and Leder will continue to serve as showrunner and director/executive producer, respectively, for the upcoming fifth season. They are joined by executive producers Michael Ellenberg and Lindsey Springer for Media Res; Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter for Hello Sunshine; Aniston and Kristin Hahn for Echo Films; and Zander Lehmann and Micah Schraft.
