Sofia Vergara gives Emmy Awards 2025 a miss; Here's why

Sofia Vergara revealed on Instagram that she was forced to skip the awards show on Sunday after being hit with what she called the "craziest eye allergy"

Actor Sofia Vergara, who was all set to present the award for best actor in a limited or anthology series or movie at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards, had to pull out of the event in the last minute due to a medical emergency.

The Modern Family star, revealed on Instagram that she was forced to skip the awards show on Sunday after being hit with what she called the "craziest eye allergy" just before heading out the door.

"Didn't make it to the Emmys but made it to the ER," Vergara wrote, captioning a carousel post that included a close-up photo of her swollen left eye. "Sorry, I had to cancel! Craziest eye [allergy] right before getting in the car!" The pictures she shared also included her resting in a hospital bed and rinsing her eye with water at a hospital sink.

Following her abscence, Malin Akerman and Brittany Snow presented the award to director-actor Stephen Graham with the Emmy award.

Other notable presenters included Elizabeth Banks, Angela Bassett, Jason Bateman, Kristen Bell, Sterling K. Brown, Jennifer Coolidge, Colman Domingo, Tina Fey, Mariska Hargitay, Jude Law, Sarah Paulson, Sydney Sweeney, Jesse Williams and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Grammy-nominated comedian Nate Bargatze hosted this year's Emmys.

Adolescence was one of the biggest winners of the year, taking home eight Emmy Awards including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series while Owen Cooper became the youngest male actor to win an Emmy with his Outstanding Supporting actor prize. Stephen Graham won two awards for writing and as lead actor in a limited series.

The other notable awardees for the event included Apple TV+ comedy The Studio which broke the record for most prizes won for a comedy series with 13 Emmys, beating The Bear. Medical drama The Pitt won three awards. Jean Smart won her fourth Emmy for Hacks. Her co-star Hannah Einbinder won the supporting actress in a comedy series award for the first time.
