Actors Michelle Buteau and Zooey Deschanel are set to unite for an upcoming indie comedy, Heather of the Valley, directed by Sheri Elwood from the script by Kate Spurgeon.

Buteau and Deschanel are known for their works in Babes and 500 Days of Summer, respectively. Heather of the Valley features Buteau as a suburban mom who is fed up with life, relying on sarcasm and a Diet Coke to get by; her former classmate, played by Deschanel, is incessantly positive, and together they form a team. A fateful turn of events transports them in time to 18th-century Scotland from the San Fernando Valley. How the two women survive in such a gritty atmosphere is what the film will be about.

The film, produced by Elevation Pictures and Who's On First, is described by Spurgeon as a story for anyone who's lost in motherhood and wants to rediscover themselves.

The actor-comedian Buteau made her movie debut in 2019 with the meta rom-com Isn't It Romantic. She had two appearances, including a voice role: Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Road Trip and Fixed. She awaits the release of Spa Weekend, directed by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore. Deschanel, meanwhile, was last seen in Harold and the Purple Crayon with Jessica Swale's Merv in the pipeline.
