Guillermo del Toro's upcoming film Frankenstein, which had its premiere at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival, received thunderous applause for its story and screenplay. The film, which stars Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein and Jacob Elordi as Frankenstein's monster, moved several audience members to tears and received a 13-minute standing ovation, the longest the festival has seen.

During the ovation, Del Toro waved to the crowd and shared multiple hugs with the leads. Elordi and Issac also shed some tears while hugging each other

Frankenstein, which is competing for the prestigious Golden Lion at the festival, also stars Mia Goth, Felix Kammerer, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, Christian Convery, Charles Dance, and Christoph Waltz.

Del Toro had also previously won this award in 2017 for his film The Shape of Water and went on to earn four Oscar awards including Best Picture and Director.

The film, which is based on Mary Shelley's 1818 novel, follows the story of Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant but egotistical scientist who brings The Creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the unravelling of both Victor and The Creature.

Backed by Del Toro alongside J Miles Dale and Scott Stuber, Frankenstein is skated for a limited theatrical release on October 17 followed by a global release by Netflix on November 7.
