Prime Video's Ballard, the spin-off of Bosch: Legacy, has been renewed for another season three months after its first season premiere by Prime Video. The series stars Maggie Q as Detective Renée Ballard, who is tasked with heading the LAPD’s new cold-case unit.
Ballard marks Amazon MGM Studios' first venture into the Bosch franchise, based on Michael Connelly's work, with a new lead character, distinct from Titus Welliver's Bosch.
The official synopsis of Ballard season 1 reads, “It follows Detective Renée Ballard (Q), who is tasked with running the LAPD’s new cold-case unit—a poorly funded, all-volunteer unit with the largest caseload in the city. Ballard approaches these frozen-in-time cases with empathy and determination. When she uncovers a larger conspiracy during her investigations, she’ll lean on the assistance of her retired ally, Harry Bosch (Welliver), to navigate the dangers that threaten both her unit and her life.”
Ballard had a strong debut on Prime Video, staying in Nielsen's top 10 chart for original streaming series for five weeks and accumulating 3.29 billion minutes of viewing during that period. The series also features Courtney Taylor, Michael Mosley, Rebecca Field, Victoria Moroles, Amy Hill, and John Carroll Lynch in prominent roles.
The series has a production team, with Michael Connelly, Michael Alaimo, and Kendall Sherwood serving as executive producers alongside Trish Hofmann. Additional executive producers include Henrik Bastin and Melissa Aouate from Fabel Entertainment, with co-executive producers Jasmine Russ, Jamie Boscardin Martin, Trey Batchelor, and Theresa Snider from Hieronymus Pictures.
