Disney's latest adventure comedy Zootopia 2 had finally hit theatres on Friday (Thursday internationally) and the sequel is already poised to break multiple box office records. In just two days of release, the film hopped past the $100 million mark globally to collect $133.2 million. This includes $59.2 million in North America and $74 million overseas.

Interestingly, China had contributed a large part to its overseas performance. Zootopia 2 scored the highest opening-day debut ever for an animated film in the US and the momentum is still strong. China’s Friday earnings, which weren’t part of the earlier global count, added an estimated $40 million. With this, the film has crossed $94 million in China within just three days, and solid weekend performance is still expected. It debuted at No. 1 in almost every international market, setting new opening-day records for a studio animated film in France, Germany, and Italy in 2025.

In Zootopia 2, Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) are facing a bigger problem at hand as they find themselves on the twisting trail of a mysterious reptile Gary De'Snake, voiced by Ke Huy Quan, who arrives in Zootopia and turns the mammal metropolis upside down. To crack the case, they go undercover and to locations unknown.

The rest of the star-studded cast members include Idris Elba as Chief Bogo, Jenny Slate as Dawn Bellwether, Nate Torrence Benjamin Clawhauser, Bonnie Hunt as Bonnie Hopps, Don Lake as Stu Hopps, Tommy Chong as Yax, Alan Tudyk as Duke Weaselton, and Shakira as Gazelle, among others are returning from the first film along with Jenny Slate as Bellwether, Maurice LaMarche as Mr. Big, Leah Latham as Fru Fru, John Dallas as Frantic Pig, Tommy Chong as Yax, Mark Rhino Smith as Officer McHorn, and Raymond Persi as Flash.

Newcomers for the sequel are Dwayne Johnson, Auliʻi Cravalho, Rachel House, Josh Gad, Anika Noni Rose, Stephanie Beatriz, Wilmer Valderrama, Jean Reno, Patrick Warburton, Yvette Nicole Brown, Andy Samberg, Macaulay Culkin, Brenda Song and David Strathairn. Musicians Ed Sheeran and Blake Slatkin are also part of the cast. Robert Irwin, the son of the late Australian TV personality and conservationist Steve Irwin is also playing a notable role.
