Earlier, we reported about the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences being set to present Tom Cruise, Wynn Thomas, Debbie Allen and Dolly Parton with honorary Oscars at the annual Governors Awards. Cruise and Allen celebrated their achievements with a party that the latter hosted before the Governors Awards the other day. Choreographer-actor Allen hit the dance floor with Cruise at the party. Project Angel Food's Chief Executive Officer Richard Ayoub shared a video on Instagram, where Cruise can be seen shaking a leg to 'Candy' by Cameo and 'Before I Let Go' by Frankie Beverley with Allen, the latter's sibling Phylicia Rashad and Jenifer Lewis. Jennifer Hudson also attended the party.
The Honorary Award specifically acknowledges "extraordinary distinction in lifetime achievement, exceptional contributions to the state of motion picture arts and sciences, or outstanding service to the Academy."
Announcing the winners in June this year, Janet Yang, The Academy's president stated, "This year’s Governors Awards will celebrate four legendary individuals whose extraordinary careers and commitment to our filmmaking community continue to leave a lasting impact."
It marks Cruise's first award from The Academy. In what millions of film buffs regard as an aberration, Cruise is yet to win an Oscar in the acting categories.
