Earlier, we reported about Tom Cruise winning an honorary Oscar, his first award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, for his contributions to cinema. The Academy presented Cruise with the honour at the Governors Awards the other day. Congratulatory messages have been pouring in for Cruise following his achievement. IMAX posted, "Congratulations, Tom Cruise! The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has awarded Tom Cruise the 2025 Honorary Award — recognizing his unwavering commitment to the filmmaking community, his vital support of the theatrical experience, and his unmatched body of work. We can’t wait to see your next film in IMAX!"

The multiplex chain also shared a still from Cruise's most recent film, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, which marked the end of the actor's long-running action film franchise, and a video where he addressed the audience before the film's screening at an IMAX theatre.

Tom Cruise has been having an unwavering commitment to the big-screen experience for a long time now, including the COVID-19 period. He has ensured to have his recent blockbusters, such as the Mission: Impossible films and Top Gun: Maverick, filmed in a format compatible with IMAX's widened aspect ratio. The actor has also tried to get exclusive IMAX runs for his films. For example, Cruise played a part in securing an IMAX window exclusively for his last Mission: Impossible film, acknowledging its importance for the franchise's eventual box office returns.
