It's high time we scream, "Gird your loins" as Meryl Streep as the iconic Miranda Priestly is back with renewed vigour in The Devil Wears Prada 2 with a new mission up her sleeve. But this time, she has company. Anne Hathaway as Andrea Sachs has returned to join her after her enigmatic exit in the first film. The nearly one-minute-long teaser, released by 20th Century Studios, wears a nostalgic throwback to the entry scene of Streep from the original film. Reminiscent of the same chaos, the sequel gives a glimpse into the glitz and glam of the fashion world. As Miranda enters the elevator with her side-swept hair and all-knowing glare, she is greeted with a familiar guest. "Took you look enough," she smirks at Andrea while she wears her sunglasses.
Apart from Miranda Priestly and Andrea Sachs, Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt), Nigel (Stanley Tucci), Lily (Tracie Thoms) and Irv Ravitz (Tibor Feldman) are all reprising roles for the sequel, which is set for a release on May 1, 2026.
The original The Devil Wears Prada (2006) was based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 eponymous novel. It is considered a cult classic among fans and a mirror to the cutthroat fashion world. The film saw aspiring journalist Andrea Sachs (Hathaway) rediscovering herself after building herself a notable name at Runway magazine headed by the fiercely sharp-tongued Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep). The sequel opens at a time when media has undergone vast changes -- notably the decline of the print medium. The tables have turned and Emily is now at a powerful position in the industry and Miranda finds herself in loggerheads with her former assistant as she controls the the advertising budget Miranda urgently requires.
The much-anticipated film has attracted worldwide attention thanks to the shooting which was held publicly at major attractions and areas in New York, Milan and Brooklyn, among other locations, with fans sharing multiple photos and videos of the production site. The sequel is directed by David Frankel and Aline Brosh McKenna after working together on the original. The newcomers for the sequel include Kenneth Branagh, set to play Miranda’s husband, as well as Lucy Liu, Simone Ashley, Justin Theroux, BJ Novak, Pauline Chalamet, Rachel Bloom and Patrick Brammal in undisclosed roles. Broadway talents Helen J Shen and Conrad Ricamora, along with comedian Caleb Hearon, will also feature in the sequel. Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman reprise their roles as Lily, Andy’s best friend, and the chairman of Runway’s parent company, respectively. Singer-songwriter Lady Gaga is also set to make a key appearance in the film although details of her role remains unknown. It was also recently confirmed that Adrian Grenier, who played Nate in the first film, will not be returning to the new film.
