Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ronald Weasley are all set to walk into the world of Hogwarts soon as HBO's much-anticipated Harry Potter series has finalised its three main leads. While Dominic McLaughlin will play the iconic Harry from the books and films, Arabella Stanton has been cast as Hermione. Alastair Stout will don the Weasley coat to star as Ron Weasley. Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint starred in the original movies that spanned a decade (2001-2011).
After reportedly selecting them from over 30,000 actors who had auditioned for these roles that have redefined pop culture, HBO is planning to start filming soon at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden.
The trio join earlier announced cast members John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch.
The makers are reportedly planning to choose the rest of the cast members including Draco Malfoy, Dean Thomas and Cho Chang from the already-submitted audition tapes. Even members of the Weasley family are to be chosen from those who couldn't land the role of Ron.
Francesca Gardiner is the creator, writer and showrunner for the series. She serves as an executive producer along with Mark Mylod, who directs multiple episodes of the series. Other executive producers include JK Rowling, Neil Blair, and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Bronte Film and TV, and David Heyman of Heyday Films. The first season is set to go on air on HBO Max in 2026.
