Netflix is keeping the friendship and drama going year-round. The streamer has officially renewed The Four Seasons for a second season following the success of its debut run, which premiered May 1.
Based on Alan Alda’s 1981 film, The Four Seasons reimagines the original’s themes of evolving relationships and emotional upheaval. Alda himself makes a cameo in the show, which is co-created by Tina Fey, Lang Fisher, and Tracey Wigfield.
Season 1 of The Four Seasons stars Fey as Kate, alongside Will Forte (Jack), Colman Domingo (Danny), Marco Calvani (Claude), Steve Carell (Nick), Erika Henningsen (Ginny), and Kerri Kenney-Silver (Anne). The dramedy follows three couples navigating life, love, and loyalty after Nick announces, at the start of their group vacation, that he’s leaving his wife Anne. What ensues is a delicate dance of divided loyalties and deeply buried tensions that slowly unravel across four seasonal vacations.
Each pair of episodes in Season 1 focused on a different getaway: spring, summer, fall, and winter, with new settings sparking new revelations. The finale shook things up dramatically, with a major character dying in a car crash and another character discovering she’s pregnant, leaving plenty of storylines open for exploration in Season 2.
Produced by Universal Television, The Four Seasons has been praised for its mix of dry humour, heartache, and insightful reflections on long-term relationships and middle-age reinvention. Season 2 is expected to continue the ensemble’s story with more travel, emotional landmines, and unexpected twists.
No release date has been set yet for Season 2.
