Caitriona Balfe has joined the cast of Tenzing, reports Deadline. The film stars Tom Hiddleston and Willem Dafoe in the lead.

The story of the film will centre around the eponymous Sherpa who conquered Everest's peak after six attempts. This expedition famously included New Zealand mountaineer Edmund Hillary.

In Tenzing, Balfe will portray Jill Henderson, Tenzing's friend who helped in organising trips on Mt Everest. Hiddleston will play Edmund Hillary, and Dafoe will play the expedition leader, Colonel John Hunt.

Jennifer Peedom is the director for the film, with the script of the film by Luke Davies. David Michod, Norbu Tenzing, and Simon Gillis serve as executive producers on the film. Tenzing is produced by Desray Armstrong, Iain Canning, Luke Davies, Emile Sherman, and Liz Watts, with director Peedom.

Balfe is known for her roles in Ford v Ferrari, Outlander, The Amateur, Belfast, and Escape Plan.
