Marvel's Thunderbolts has gotten off to a flyer with an opening day box office collection of $31.5 million. The Hollywood number-crunchers expect the film to emerge as the film with the highest collection in the box office this weekend.
The film opened in 4,330 theaters worldwide on Friday.
Despite the box-office records set by this new Marvel franchise featuring rookie superheroes, who have already been a part of other MCU films, it too is a testimony to the plummeting 'big ticket' status it enjoyed over the years. The opening weekend collection of Thunderbolts will very well fall within that of Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow ($80 million) and Guardians of the Galaxy ($94 million).
Continuing its hold on the box office, Ryan Coogler's vampire thriller Sinners is on the second position, facing a drop of just 27% from its daily total a week ago to collect $9.5 million this Friday. The film, made on a budget of around $90 million, has collected over $200 million worldwide since its release on April 18.
