Mathew Lillard is scared of ruining the legacy of the Scream franchise

Lillard is set to return to the franchise with the upcoming film Scream 7

In a panel at 90s Con, Matthew Lillard joined the members of the first Scream (1996), David Arquette, Jamie Kennedy, Dermot Mulroney, and Skeet Ulrich, which was hosted by People magazine. He talked about the legacy of the franchise and the film.

Lillard was asked about his return to the franchise and what his views were. He replied, "I will say I can't say anything about it, obviously. But I am very excited and slightly terrified to be back because all I can do is really screw up a legacy that we have."

He also went on to share that his main fear was not performing well in the upcoming film. Lillard did not want to ruin the film and the franchise for the audiences.

Scream 7 is directed by Kevin Williamson, a writer for all of the films in the franchise, from a screenplay by Guy Busick. Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, Mason Gooding, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Roger L Jackson, Isabel May, Celeste O'Connor, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, Sam Rechner, Anna Camp, Joel McHale, Mark Consuelos, and Ethan Embry.

The film is produced by James Vanderbilt, William Sherak, and Paul Neinstein under their Project X Entertainment. Spyglass Entertainment is producing the film with Paramount Pictures distributing it.

Kevin Williamson's Scream 7 is set to release theatrically on February 27.
