Jointly produced by Sony and Nintendo, the live-action film adaptation of the video game franchise 'The Legend of Zelda' titled Legend of Zelda is set for a theatrical release on March 26, 2027.

The film's development gained impetus by the box-office success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which released in April 2023 and grossed over $1.3 billion globally, for which Nintendo teamed up with Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment.

The release date was unveiled by Nintendo's newly launched app, Nintendo Today. Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of Zelda, confirmed then that the works for the live-action film are in development, with him and Avi Arad producing the film.

The helmer of The Maze Runner trilogy and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, which released last year, Wes Ball is directing the film while also producing with Joe Hartwick Jr. under their banner Oddball Entertainment.

With Sony Pictures Entertainment and Nintendo providing the finances, the film's casting and story remain under wraps.
