J Alphonse Nicholson joins the cast of HBO's Lanterns

Damon Lindelof, creator of HBO's Watchmen and Tom King, a writer for DC Comics serve as executive producers

With production moving forward, HBO's Lanterns adds J Alphonse Nicholson to its cast, reports Deadline. While there is no release date yet, the series is set to release in 2026.

Nicholson plays a younger version of John Stewart's father, John Stewart Sr. Aaron Pierre plays the Lantern John Stewart, with Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan. Other cast members include Kelly Macdonald and Poorna Jagannathan, with Ulrich Thomsen as Sinestro and Nicole Ari Parker as John Stewart's mother, Bernadette Stewart.

Lanterns was announced in 2023 by DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn. Chris Mundy serves as the showrunner and a co-writer for the series. The first season has an eight-episode order, with James Hawes directing two of them. Mundy, Gunn, and Hawes serveas executive producers on the series with DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran, Damon Lindelof, who created HBO's Watchmen, and DC Comics writer Tom King.

Nicholson is known for his roles in Destin Daniel Cretton's Just Mercy, where he starred with Michael B Jordan. He is also known for his roles in Netflix's They Cloned Tyrone, Blue Bloods, Marvel's Luke Cage, and P-Valley. He also portrayed NBA player Chris Paul in Hulu's limited series Clipped.
