Earlier, we reported about John Malkovich, Sam Rockwell, Steve Buscemi, and Parker Posey starring in a film titled Wild Horse Nine from director Martin McDonagh. The latest from the project is that its principal photography has commenced, with the new cast additions Mariana di Girolamo, Ailin Salas, Tom Waits, and Paola Giannini. As suggested in an earlier report, production on the film has started on Rapa Nui, also known as Easter Island, a remote Chilean territory in the Pacific Ocean renowned for its unique cultural heritage. The official social media account of the film made the announcement with the image of a clapboard featuring the nine Moai statues on the island in the background.

Wild Horse Nine brings Rockwell back together with McDonagh following 2017's Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. It also reunites the filmmaker with producers Blueprint Pictures and Film4 as well as distributor Searchlight Pictures after 2022's The Banshees of Inisherin. On the other hand, Ruffalo, Malkovich, and Posey are collaborating for the first time with McDonagh through Wild Horse Nine.

The makers are yet to reveal any plot details, but they describe Wild Horse Nine as a dark comedy.
