After directing Taylor Swift: Eras Tour, live-event and documentary filmmaker Sam Wrench has found his next project. Wrench has signed on to helm a remake of 1980's The Idolmaker, a film based on rock music promoter and film producer Bob Marcucci's life. Wrench will direct it from a screenplay by Jason Katims, who is known for his work on the Emmy-winning series Friday Night Lights.

The Idolmaker marked Taylor Hackford's directorial debut, and it yielded Ray Sharkey a Best Actor nomination at the 1981 Golden Globe Awards. The subject of the film, Bob Marcucci played a crucial role in unearthing talents in the music industry, such as Frankie Avalon and Fabian.

The remake will bring back the 1980 original's producers, Gene Kirkwood and Hawk Koch, who will produce the film with Bill Gerber. The plot follows a musician who is considered a singular talent and a gifted "idolmaker" as they deal with complications in the real world and the industry.
