Earlier, we reported about Grant Sputore directing the upcoming instalment in the Monsterverse franchise, featuring Godzilla and Kong, from a David Callaham screenplay. The latest from the project is that Matthew Modine has signed on to star in distributor Legendary’s project. According to reports, Modine is cast in the film as a general, although the makers are yet to confirm it. Modine joins Dan Stevens, who returns to the universe as dentist and monster veterinarian Trapper after playing the role in last year's Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Franchise newcomers Kaitlyn Dever, Delroy Lindo, and Jack O’Connell are also part of the cast.

Legendary is yet to reveal plot details, but the distributor had earlier said that it will have Kong and Godzilla taking on a threat that can destroy the whole world. The film is set to go on floors in Australia this April.

Modine is known for his roles in Full Metal Jacket, Stranger Things, Oppenheimer, and Zero Day. The actor's next projects also include The Better Sister, alongside Jessica Biel and Elizabeth Banks, as well as The Protector along with Milla Jovovich.
