After Matthew Lillard and Scott Foley, David Arquette becomes the latest actor to reprise his role in the upcoming seventh instalment in the Scream franchise. The makers of Scream 7 are yet to reveal how they are going to bring back Arquette's character deputy sheriff Dewey Riley, because he dies in the fifth instalment, 2022's Scream. Lillard and Foley's characters, too, will have similar resurrections.

Scream 7 will mark Arquette's sixth appearance in the slasher film franchise. The returning cast also includes Courteney Cox, Neve Campbell, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding. The film also stars franchise newcomers: Mckenna Grace, Joel McHale, Celeste O’Connor, Sam Rechner, Anna Camp, Asa Germann, Ethan Embry, and Mark Consuelos.

The latest announcement comes after Cox's recent comments about her expectation to see Arquette's Riley back in the franchise. For the uninitiated, Cox plays Gale Weathers, Riley's wife. Reminding the filmmakers about Riley's popularity among Scream fans, Cox stated that they should figure out a way to bring the character back.

The film also marks the return of franchise creator, Scream writer Kevin Williamson in his first film in the franchise as a director. Scream 7 is slated for a February 27, 2026, release in theatres.
